Latest Blog Posts Los indocumentados deben tomar precauciones extras en estas festividades de Navidad y Año Nuevo Por VILMA FILICI La columna de esta semana, tal y como lo he hecho frente a las festividades de Navidad y Año Nuevo todos los años desde hace ya más de una década, va dirigida a todas aquellas personas de nuestra comunidad que por diversas razones viven de forma indocumentada en el país, así como también a los residentes permanentes que han tenido problemas legales y han sido condenados a prisión por más de seis meses. Es un recordatorio de lo que NO es recomendable hacer en esta época particular del año. Estamos ya prácticamente dentro de las festividades de Navidad y Año Nuevo y, como es tradición también, las autoridades policiales lanzaron su acostumbrada campaña propia de estas festividades conocida como RAID (Report All Impaired Drivers), mediante la cual buscan reducir el número de accidentes de tránsito que suceden en la provincia y que son producidos por conductores ebrios. Definitivamente ésta es una campaña muy positiva para la ciudadanía en general dado que ayuda a que las calles de la ciudad sean más seguras para conducir. Sin embargo, podría ser una campaña bastante inconveniente para aquellas personas que viven en el país sin tener un estatus legal, y particularmente para quienes hay una orden de arresto por parte del Departamento de Inmigración. Durante las fiestas de fin de año generalmente todo mundo se relaja y disfruta de las festividades, pero son fechas en las que también, lamentablemente, las personas que no tienen estatus legal y las personas que no son ciudadanas y han tenido problemas con la policía, deben estar más alerta que de costumbre. Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)   Background   The government of Canada requires certain foreign nationals who are from visa-exempt countries to provide an electronic travel authorization(eTa) upon entry to Canada by air.   After you complete your eTA forms, an automated screening system will process the application for approval. If an answer on the form is unsatisfactory, flags may be raised and the application could be escalated to a human operator and he/she will make a judgment call and it may take longer than most cases.   What The Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is a mandatory requirement for entering Canada from a visa-exempt country(see the list below). The eTA is linked with the traveller’s passport electronically and is valid for up to 5 years or when your passport expires, whichever comes first. If you obtain a new passport, you will also need to apply for a new eTA.   See below for a list of visa-exempt and required countries.   An eTA will allow you to travel to Canada for up to 6 months during every visit. For travel within Canada, an eTA is not necessary.   Along with your eTA, you will need to provide other documents such as your passport and accompanying documents and convince the officer that you are eligible to travel to Canada. Their office is in Downtown Toronto, not too far away from Bathurst Station.
